Virginia Youth Services Club Charity Tournament

The Virginia Youth Services Club or the YSC do a charity golf tournament every year, for various children funds in our area. You may known them better as the old "Exchange Club" and the guys who put on the Oyster Roast every year.

Mr. Budweiser, Danny Byrd is in charge, and several of our esteemed members are personal friends with Danny! I would love to enter a VB Golf Crew team into this event. I am also a member of the YSC, and our very own Ross Hampton is a pledge this year.

Here is the flier with the information:

The Colonial Heritage Golf Course

Another hidden gem, close to all of us, in Williamsburg, the Colonial Heritage Golf Course. Great rates, awesome lay out and reviews, no houses, lots of wild life, what more could we ask for?

The Colonial Heritage Golf Course designed by well known golf course architect Arthur Hills opened in late fall 2006. The course features large greens and several deep ravines. Holes to remember are the par four 8th and par five 14th. Both are distinctly different and leave little room for errant shots!

The 18-hole 6,920 yard, par-72 championship golf course offers golfers 5 sets of tees to choose from and incorporates the natural rolling terrain, glistening lakes and undulating fairways.
5thholecolonialheritageSet amid the historical backdrop of Williamsburg, Colonial Heritage Club offers visitors and residents an inviting location for championship golf, fine dining and entertaining as well as an unparalleled site for hosting weddings and special events.

Jan-Mar & Nov-Dec April-Oct
Weekday (Monday – Thursday) $50 $55
Weekend (Friday – Sunday) $55 $60
Twilight (Daily) $35 $35
**All above listed green fee rates include golf car rental.

To book your tee time call the Golf Shop at 757.645.2030

Myrtle Beach 2010 Rates are posted

In keeping with our theme, golf's greatest play ground, Myrtle Beach, I have been following the rates for next year. The rates are set in September by the Myrtle Beach Golf Directors, and usual reflect how the previous year went, and adjust prices accordingly.

Here are some interested facts about next season:

14335.9 in reply to 14335.1

Comparing the Golfdesk 2009 brochure to the 2010 rates on the website, here is what I found, based on peak April rates, AM Thur-Sunday.

The rates at most other courses not listed below were down from $2 to $8.

INCREASED RATES 4/8-4/25 2010:
Blackmoor 4
The Dunes 19 Must not want much package play.
Int Club 10
TPC 2

SIGNIFICANT LOWER RATES 4/8-4/25 2010:
Brunswick -$24
Crow Creek -$23
Farmstead -$10
Founders Pawleys -$30 Some of this FC drop was during 2009.
Leopards Chase -$14
Lions Paw -$13
Meadowlands -$10
Panthers Run -$24
Pawleys Plant -$18
Pearl -$14
Pine Lakes -$12
Rivers Edge -$ 9
Tidewater -$18
Tigers Eye -$18
Wicked Stick -$15

Thanks Art for the break down.

I was looking at this same time frame, Art, since that's when I went this past year and when I intend to go next year.

My numbers agree (almost) with yours* (based on AM Thur-Sun rates).

Roughly unchanged (+/- less than 3%): Barefoot Courses, Caledonia, Founders, Litchfield, Long Bay, River Club, Thistle.

Down 10%+: Meadowlands, Pawley's Plantation, Pine Lakes, River's Edge, Tiger's Eye

Others of note: Down: Legends/Oyster Bay/Heritage -6%, Grande Dunes -4%, True Blue -4%.

Up: Tidewater +4%, Dunes +9%, Avocet +19%, TPC +1%

Thanks Chris NH for this break down with percentages.

The following are some other observations about pricing for next year, thanks to the great folks at Myrtle Beach Golf Talk.

Sea Trails for $35-$37 pm and mid-week is better 'steal'. Panthers Run, Lions Paw and Farmstead for $41 as well.

Interesting comment on the Dunes Club.

In 2007, we paid $95 or so (midweek) during the low price season. This year it's up to $130.

My guess is that either they don't need the package play, or they've been getting so much due to popularity, they're trying to cash in.

In general, it looks as if the rates as a whole went down for 2010, good news for us, and the rooming rates remain dirt cheap, all of which should equal a better price and value for next years trip.

Iron Man Charity Golf Tournament at Heron Ridge

Golf Tournament to raise money for childhood cancer research, programs and financial assistance for those in need. 12pm Shotgun Start...Lunch, Golf, Beverages, Dinner, Entertainment, Prizes & Much, Much more! Please plan on joining us for a great day and a great cause!

Ian Wilson Larmore was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in March of 2006. He has been an inspiration to many adults and their children during his journey. Along this journey Ian has been to the Operating Room at CHKD more than 25 times, and was hospitalized for 10 months. During this grueling treatment process he earned the nickname 'Iron Man' and is continuing his fight.

Currently, Ian is in remission (2 1/2 years) and spending his free time trying to catch up for the year he spent in the hospital battling for his life.

During the past year, our foundation raised $17,000 (mainly from the 2008 Iron Man Classic) These funds were distributed in the following way:
~$3,000 - CHKD
~$11,000 - St Balrick's Foundation
~$3,000 - Edmarc Hospice for Children

Thank you for your support!

We are now under new management, with The Arnold Palmer Golf Management Company coming aboard. They have brought a new and exciting attitude to Myrtle Beach and I am very eager to work as a part of their company.

#2. What is your best round on your course? Best round ever?

Heathland - 65
Moorland - 67
Parkland - 73
Best round ever was the 65 on the Heathland.

#3. Hobbies, other than golf?

Fishing.
Traveling…when I can.
Watching Football, Basketball and UFC.

#4. Dream golf 4some?
Myself.
Tiger Woods.
Michael Jordan.
Ben Roethlisberger

#5. How many years have you been in the golf business?

7

#6. Where are you originally from?

Uniontown, PA - about 40 minutes outside Pittsburgh

#7. What is the strangest thing that happened on your course recently?
Had a small tornado take out about 10 trees, picked up the 100 foot long Driving Range Canopy and slammed it to the ground breaking it. Also took a 50 pound generator and moved it about 200 yards across the road into the woods.

#8. What makes your course stand out compared to the other 100 MB golf courses?
We have 3 unique designs on site all boasting 4 1/2 stars from Golf Digest. There is the Scottish Links Style course, which was voted one of the best 30 you can play in South Carolina by the SCGA, The Heathland. The Moorland is ranked the 37th Toughest Course in America by Golf Digest. The Parkland is an American-Style course with beautiful tree-lined fairways. We have an acre putting green and a 30 acre practice facility that both stay lit past 10:00 pm.

#9. How long have you worked at your golf club?

5 years.

#10. What is the biggest challenge your course faces this year?

Keeping golfers coming to our location by providing them with the best customer service on the beach.

#11. Describe your signature holes, and how to play them?

We don’t have a “Signature Hole” for each course per say, but the 16th on The Moorland Course is probably the most famous…or should I say “infamous”
It is a Drivable Par 4 with so much trouble around the green it was nicknamed “Hell’s Half Acre”

#12. Have you played competitively?

I played in junior tournaments all over the country since I was 10.
I played in high school as well as in college for 2 years.
Since becoming a professional I try to play in a few events a year.

#13. What course improvements have you undergone in the past year, or what improvements are you considering?

We added a group of Senior Tees to all of our courses.
We are in the midst of adding several new tees to make the courses a little more “Lady-Friendly.”
All sprinkler heads will be marked with yardages by October 1, 2009.

#14. What general trends are you seeing in the golf industry in Myrtle Beach?
Courses are beginning to get more competitive with their rates and are trying
different packages to lure golfers to their courses.

This is the possible setting for the Myrtle Beach 2010 Trip!!
