Seven Lakes Country Club

Nestled among the longleaf pines, Seven Lakes lies just 10 minutes west of The Village of Pinehurst. Open for selective, prospective member play, the course was designed by Peter Tufts, great-grandson of the founder of Village of Pinehurst Resort and opened in 1976. Created in the tradition of Scottish architects of the early 1900¹s, Tufts cleverly adapted the creeks and lakes with the pine-lined fairways. Water comes into play on nine of the eighteen holes. Golf Digest says "plan your vacation around it".

Top 100 Public Golf Courses, Myrtle Beach Has 3!

Three Myrtle Beach Golf Courses Ranked Among "Top 100 You Can Play"

Wednesday, August 1, 2012 by Chris King
Caledonia is the 27th ranked publc course in America, according to Golf MagazineGolf Magazine has unveiled its list of the “Top 100 Courses You Can Play,” a ranking of America’s 100 best public layouts, and three Myrtle Beach golf courses have earned a spot on the prestigious list.

Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, Dunes Golf & Beach Club and the Love Course at Barefoot Resort all earned a spot among the nation’s elite public courses.

Caledonia, a Mike Strantz design, again led by the way. The South Strand favorite was ranked 27th, a one spot improvement from its place on 2010 list.

Caledonia is as stunning to the eyes as it is enjoyable to play. The layout is set amidst sprawling live oak trees draped in Spanish moss and plays along the Waccamaw River. The course, Strantz’s first solo effort, has been regarded as among the nation’s best since it opened in 1994.

The Dunes Club is Myrtle Beach’s most revered course. The Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design opened in 1949 and is rich with history, having hosted some of the game’s premier events. The Dunes Club has hosted the U.S. Women’s Open, the finals of PGA Tour Q-School, and six Senior PGA Tour Championships.

But classic architecture, as opposed to history, is what earned Dunes Club the 47th spot on Golf Magazine’s list. The 13th hole, known as Waterloo, caps Alligator Alley, a spectacular three-hole stretch that plays along Lake Singleton and the swash from the nearby Atlantic Ocean.

The Love Course, also a repeat member of the list, was ranked 86th. Arguably the most popular course at Barefoot Resort, one of the nation’s premier multi-course facilities, the design solidified Davis Love’s bona fides as a golf course architect.

Using the faux ruins of a Carolina plantation home as a backdrop, the Love Course delights golfers with its combination of beauty and playability.

Golf Magazine’s rankings further solidify Myrtle Beach’s standing as America’s most popular golf destination, highlighting the depth and quality of courses the area offers. Over the last five years, 12 Myrtle Beach golf courses have been ranked the nation’s top 100 public courses by either Golf Digest or Golf Magazine.

Nike VR Pro Cavity Iron Set

Cavity Check

The downside to having dental insurance is that you have no excuse for not going to the dentist. I keep putting off making an appointment for myself. It's not that I'm afraid to lie back and let a guy in a mask dig inside my mouth with sharp utensils. Not at all. It's that I don't want to be told that I have a cavity. I've never had one and I don't want to break my winning streak.
When I was little, my dentist had this bell attached to the wall that you'd get to ring if you didn't have any cavities. That sweet sound of victory was made even sweeter if I hadn't been exactly diligent about my dental hygiene. There were posters on the wall with cartoon teeth and friendly messages like "Always Brush", but to them I'd say, "IN YOUR SMUG ANTHROPOMORPHIC FACES! I HAVEN'T BRUSHED IN WEEKS!" Actually, I made that last part up, but the sentiment was there. I may be an adult now, but I still don't want to lose it.
The word "cavity" gets a bad rap because of its association with teeth, but it can be a great thing, especially if you have the Nike VR Pro Cavity 4-AW Iron Set. The long- and mid-irons have cavities with an Opti-Mass tungsten/resin insert to give you higher launches and longer distance. The cavities also have neat little Nike Swoosh marks on them. It would be horrible to have these cavities in your teeth, but they're amazing in an iron set. You'll want your own Bell of Victory to ring.

Myrtle Beach Golf Course Of The Year

Dunes Club Named Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 by Chris King
Dunes Club is the Myrtle Beach golf course of the yearMyrtle Beach’s most revered golf course has received one of the area’s most prestigious honors.

The Dunes Golf & Beach Club has been named the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association’s 2012 Course of the Year.

The MBAGCOA evaluates Golf Course of the Year nominees on four criteria: exceptional quality of the golf course, exceptional quality of the ownership and management, outstanding contribution to the community, and significant contribution to the game. By virtue of winning the award, Dunes Club becomes a candidate for state and potentially national honors.

“We are thrilled to be recognized as Course of the Year in the Myrtle Beach area,” said Dennis Nicholl, Dunes Club head professional. “To be selected from among so many fine golf courses in this area is truly an honor. We look forward to representing the Myrtle Beach golf industry as we advance to the state and national levels.”

The award is another in a long list of accolades for the Dunes Club. Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golfweek have long ranked the Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design among America’s top 100 public courses. The Grand Strand’s second oldest layout, the Dunes Club has also hosted some of golf’s most prestigious events, including the U.S. Women’s Open, six Senior PGA Tour Championships, and the finals of the PGA Tour’s Q-School.

The 13th hole, known has Waterloo, is the Dunes Club’s signature hole and the memorable crescendo of a three-hole stretch known as Alligator Alley. The par 5, which plays around Lake Singleton, has been featured on the pages of Golf Digest and hailed by the likes of World Golf Hall of Famer Dan Jenkins.

The 11th and 12th holes, both of which play along the swash from the nearby Atlantic Ocean, complete Alligator Alley, one of the finest stretches of golf in the nation.

The Dunes Club opened in 1949 and gave Myrtle Beach national cache as the area grew into America’s most popular golf destination, but the course’s value to the Grand Strand extends beyond national recognition.

The Dunes Club has been a bedrock of the community since its opening, hosting countless charity events and junior golf outings. The course also serves as the home course for the boys and girls golf teams at Myrtle Beach High School.

At the heart of the course’s engagement with the community are its ownership and a thriving membership.

The National Golf Course Owners Association implemented the award in 1996 and the MBAGCOA has since nominated courses from the Myrtle Beach area. Past recipients of the award include Founders Club (2011), Sandpiper Bay (2010) Shaftesbury Glen (2009), Grande Dunes (2008), Wachesaw Plantation East (2007), Burning Ridge (2006), TPC of Myrtle Beach (2005), Indian Wells Golf Club (2004), World Tour Golf Links (2003), Wild Wing Plantation (2002), Blackmoor (2001), Tradition Golf Club (2000), Bay Tree Golf Plantation (1999), Arrowhead Country Club (1998) and Myrtle Beach National’s King’s North (1996). Five of the Myrtle Beach regional winners - Burning Ridge, TPC, Wild Wing, Tradition, Arrowhead and King’s North - also captured the state award. World Tour was named as the national “Golf Course of the Year.”

In the 90s, there was a little show called Animaniacs. It was about the adventures of a trio of wacky siblings. They resembled 1920s cartoon characters, sort of like "Steamboat Willy"-era Mickey Mouse. Animaniacs was not made by Disney, however, but by Warner Brothers and it was presented by none other than Steven Spielberg. I have to say that I wasn't a huge fan of the show at the time. I didn't get it. There was one segment that I did enjoy, and that was called "Good Idea, Bad Idea". In it, a skeleton-looking figure tried out two similar-sounding ideas with vastly different effects.
Here's an example: Good Idea: Climbing a mountain. Bad Idea: Climbing a mountain lion. I guess it works better as a sight gag and with a child's perspective. What really sticks in my mind is the intro, which was a monotone Steven Wright-esque voice saying "It's Time for Another 'Good Idea, Bad Idea'". In fact, I'm often reminded of it when forced to come with ideas.
For example: "What should I write for my Divot story? It's time for another 'Good Idea, Bad Idea'. Good Idea: Putting a spin of the Idea hybrid's name. Bad Idea: Rambling yet again about topics no one cares about. Good Idea: Writing about anything, as long as my already past-due story is completed.
You can try it yourself. I'll get you started -- Good Idea: Getting an Adams Idea Black Super hybrid for half of the MSRP. Bad Idea: None.
