One of our two Silver Medal Resorts as awarded by GOLF Magazine, Pine Needles offers character, warmth and comfort.  Built in the 1950's and nestled among towering longleaf pines, our chalet style lodges provide exceptional comfort with recently renovated rooms and all of the luxuries of home.  Balconies and terraces allow you to gaze upon the championship course, a Donald Ross gem that was recently ranked #4 in North Carolina.
In 2004, Pine Needles underwent an important restoration project.  Under the watchful eye of Ross aficionado, John Fought, the greens were rebuilt, bunkers were dug out and fresh sand was installed.  Contours and dimensions of greens were restored to their original forms as shown by a series of vintage aerial photos of the course, returning the course to its original glory.

Following the restoration, the Pine Needles course measures more than 7,000 yards in length with some holes having been "stretched" to return the shot values that Donald Ross intended for this course.  Fairway bunkers are now placed so that they serve as the kind of hazard that Ross intended for the tees.

Key Holes Scorecard Book a Tee Time
The Mid Pines course remains exactly as Donald Ross numbered and routed the course in 1921.  Impeccably manicured to modern standards, Mid Pines is a classic gem, a rarity among Ross’s masterpieces because it is exactly as he crafted it more than 88 years ago.  Even so, Mid Pines has played host to many national competitions including the 2002 USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship.

Many people have characterized the course as "pure Donald Ross" because of how it fits the land where it was built.  It has few forced carries, artificial or contrived holes.  It's been said that Mid Pines was never conceived as a daunting task to the finest players competing under championship conditions...Mid Pines was intended  simply as a fun course with adequate challenge for members and guests of a private club and resort.

Course Overview

Bayside Resort Golf Club, Delaware’s first Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, is conveniently located just outside of Fenwick Island off Rt. 54 and just 4 miles to the beach with gorgeous views along the Assawoman Bay coastline. Inspired by the surrounding salt marshes, meadows and magnificent woodlands, the course provides three distinctly different golf experiences rarely found in one course. The course is dotted with pot bunkers that help defend the smallish, elevated greens, many of which are surrounded by tightly mown chipping areas. First-time players often find it difficult to stay focused on each shot- the gorgeous views have proved to be distracting. A good round requires staying out of the numerous water hazards, which come into play on more than half the holes. As a group, the best collection of holes may be the memorable one-shotters, especially the 158 yard 13th, which features a carry over water to a small green framed by soaring pines and deep bunkers. Since the opening of the course in 2005, the club has made several improvements, including the addition of mature trees to fairways that help direct tee shots. The layout was enhanced in May of 2010 with the opening of a 7,300-square-foot clubhouse facility, which has a fully stocked pro shop, outdoor deck, fire pit, and the Cove Bar & Grill, already a favored gathering spot for golfers and residents.

The golf course sits at the heart of a luxury community that promotes a vibrant lifestyle with a mix of home types, variety of recreational activities, thriving arts presence, and a retail shopping center. Nearby the Bayside community are waterways, beaches, and shopping.

“Golfers at Bayside enjoy three distinctly different golf experiences all in one golf course. Some holes are richly tree-lined, others wind through marshland and still others boast wide-open fairways.  It is our hope that Bayside is truly a memorable golf experience offering variety rarely found elsewhere.” - Jack Nicklaus

We invite you to visit our community for an exceptional tour. Enter our neighborhood through a fairway of azaleas, magnolias and dogwoods. Discover all that membership at National has to offer, including a relaxed and easy lifestyle with diverse amenities and member activities.

Hole 1: The Knoll
Par 4 410 yards 390 yards 373 yards 294 yards 264 yards
Jack starts you off with a rare dogleg left. Play your drive down the right center of the fairway to give yourself the best angle to the green. Avoid the bunkers short and right of the green. The only bail out is short & left of the green

Hole 9: Cornerstone
Par 3 160 yards 140 yards 120 yards 92 yards 74 yards
The picturesque par three ninth hole will test your nerves! The bail out area is short & right. Note the collection area on the right side of the green that funnels marginal shots off the green. On the back of the green there is a slope that will shoot balls down to the back, left of the green.

Hole 18: Bear's Valley
Par 4 460 yards 434 yards 402 yards 358 yards 348 yards
This long par four will make you earn a good score. By playing your tee shot down the right side you may be able to shorten the hole, but you run the risk of getting hung up in the trees. Your approach shot requires a long iron into a well guarded green. Par is a good score on this testy finishing hole.
